Brockton Public Library
Gilmore Elementary School has partnered with the Brockton Public Library to provide enrichment opportunities for our students. We will have all of our students go to the library, obtain a library card and receive instruction from the librarians. We will also look for family volunteers to be chaperones when their child’s class will be going to the library.
Overview
Students who are engaged in the offerings of their community will continue to take advantage of the opportunities that support and continue learning beyond the school year/day. The rich resources and programming offered by the local library are immense and bring children and families together in a variety of ways. As school and municipal budgets continue to shrink, we must leverage our community based resources to provide high-quality resources for children and families. A local library often focuses on building community face-to-face, inspiring and educating patrons about art, literature, music, civic engagement and more.
We have approximately 600 students, K-5 (100-120 students per grade level). Our goal would be to offer students the opportunity to visit the BPL once a month, apply for a library card, borrow books monthly, learn how the BPL works and the programs it offers. We would ideally like to dedicate one school day per month (September-June) where we would bus our students by grade throughout the day with school faculty and parent volunteers.
