Today Mrs. Duffey's third grade students learned about why snowflakes are white! We gathered information from a video exploration on Mystery Science and learned that the white light from the sun makes snow look white. We also learned that parts of snowflakes are transparent or see through and other parts of the snowflake look white. We then made transparent wax paper into "snow" and made our own snowflakes!
Mr. Brian McCarthy, the Gilmore Physical Education teacher for the past 6 years, was nominated by a colleague for the Brockton Public Schools Red Apple Award. Most commonly known as Mr. M, is far more than a Phys Ed teacher to the students of the Gilmore School. Most recently he took our kids to Fenway on a Sunday for a running event. He started a running club for students and teachers, delivers character education by example every day, sets up and runs our Playworks, and sends hilarious emails to keep us all informed and entertained. We would not be the same school without him!
In addition to that, Mr. M is well known by students throughout the city for his 16 years as a member of the Smart Start Extended Day Staff, has worked in the Summer Get -Ready Program, an MTA at the Raymond School for many years. Here at the Gilmore School, our Extended Day students look forward to Friday Dance Off's.
Thank you for all that you do to maintain a positive spirit and climate here at the Gilmore!

King Philip High School’s Student Council Advisor, Mrs. Ellen Dill, invited Gr. 1 of the Raymond School to participate in their yearly community service event. 170 Raymond students were invited to the holiday party held at the high school in Wrentham on Wednesday, Dec. 13th. The day began with our students meeting with their HS partner and spending some time getting to know each other by participating in arts and crafts and other fun activities together. Students and staff were then treated to a brief holiday concert by the HS band! After a delicious pizza and salad lunch each student received their holiday gifts. Each students received a warm winter hat and mittens and toys that they had put on their “wish list”. The day ended with the Raymond students presenting their “partner” with their handmade wreath ornament. What a wonderful way to start the holiday season!
We celebrated our 2nd annual Holiday History Lantern Walk on Wednesday, December 6th at the Gilmore School. Joined by so many of our community members and organizations like the Keith Park Neighborhood Association, Campello Main Streets Team, Campello Business Association, and the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, we came together to get in the Holiday Spirit. Beginning at the Gilmore, students grabbed their homemade soda bottle lanterns, added a light, donned their reflective vests, and stepped out into the neighborhood to spread some holiday cheer. We enjoyed a walk to Keith Park where we took photos with life sized characters from the movie Frozen, learned a bit about the history of Campello, and then grabbed some bells and streamers. As we walked down Main Street, we decorated the planter barrel trees and sang carols until we arrived at the Fire Station! Thank you to our neighborhood heroes at Station 2 for the candy canes! We finished our evening with an organ concert and more sing-a-longs courtesy of Pastor Jeffrey! It wouldn't have been complete without the amazing cookies and chocolate milk courtesy of the parishioners at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church!
